Ten minutes of your time for my thesis? [Jun. 23rd, 2008|05:09 pm]
City of Forever

Dear fanfic authors,

first of all I’m sorry if OT posting isn’t allowed in this community, but there’s no other way for me to do this; just delete this if it isn’t appropriate.

I’m a fanfic reader and occasional fanfic writer myself, so what did I pick for my thesis in communication sciences? Fan Fiction, of course. I designed a survey to find out more about our writing habits and media use; it takes about 10 minutes to complete.

If you could go here and fill it out, I’d be forever grateful. Of course I’ll publish some of the results at my journal in about a month or two, so you’ll know what happened with your answers.
The survey is completely anonymous; I have no way of finding out who gave which answers.

Please, please help a fellow fan out. It’s only ten minutes for you; it’s a very important part of my work for me.

This has been cross-posted like crazy, and I'm sorry for spamming you guys, I'm just a little desperate, too.

Thanks for letting me join the community and such. I'm fairly new to LiveJournal (only because I never have anything to do on here so I never come on. Hopefully now that I'm in a community about something I could talk about for hours I'll want to be on more often!)
Um. Does anyone know any websites I can get Ecco icons from? I've been searching and searching but can't find any!

what would you want in a new ecco game? [Apr. 23rd, 2008|02:43 pm]
City of Forever

Hey guys

Just joined this community today and was wondering, what ideas would you like to see in a new ecco game?

Personally I'd like to see a shift from the more sci-fi machine/future worlds/alien looking landscapes of some of the previous games to something more naturalistic, with levels based on real underwater environments such as giant kelp forests, icy caverns, deep sea vents and levels set at night.

I also think it would be interesting to introduce a new character in the form of a blue shark, the twist being that sharks and dolphins have always been mortal enemies but ecco and the new character have to team up reluctantly to save the ocean from a common enemy. The new enemy could be humans, the game set in the present day before they were at peace with dolphins and instead were polluting and plundering the seas. Or perhaps the threat could be a red tide that threatens to wipe out ecco's home sea.

The shark will have different strengths to ecco, it may not be able to sing or jump high, but will be able to breath underwater, bite through certain objects and use its powerful sense of smell to uncover enemies etc

So any ideas yourselves?

Big Ecco News from DARK SEA! [Apr. 11th, 2008|12:39 am]
City of Forever
[feeln' |excitedexcited]

Hello to all visitors of City of Forever. :) I'm Epicenter, admin of DARK SEA, the last major repository of Ecco information and material on this great big internet of ours.

I'd like to make this announcement to anyone out there interested in Ecco! It's been said Ecco as its internet fanbase appears to have dimished. Well, I come to you today with some very good news.

In the past, the Ecco community has been divided by unnecessary conflicts between sites and forums, giving fans of this classic game series no real place to call home. DARK SEA is my effort to change that-- by bringing all Ecco-related content under one roof in a stable and permanent format. I see myself as a digital archaeologist, and Ecco is my subject of study. I and many other devoted contributors are investing countless hours into this project.

DARK SEA represents a permanent internet repository of all available Ecco material and is constantly growing. At present the site contains documentation of the games themselves, their story, and exclusive interviews I and others have conducted with the original Ecco Team at Novotrade, music from the Ecco games, the soundtracks from the Ecco games painstakingly recorded from the original Genesis and Game Gear hardware, original CD rips, including forthcoming lossless copies, of the CD games' music, all the games' CG videos, ROMs/ISO images of every Ecco game for you to play, sonar maps of Ecco stages (as well as cheat codes) in the Strategy section, and what I think is DARK SEA's crown jewel-- the prototype documentation section.

Most of you probably know of, or have heard of, the Ecco 2 "prototype" or "beta" version for Genesis/MegaDrive. This was an early unfinished version of the game that showed off many never-before-seen aspects of its design. Well, through cooperation with Drx of Hidden Palace, DARK SEA is working to research and release *35* new Ecco prototype versions from different versions of Ecco II and Ecco Jr. We have already released the first, designated "X11", with a build date of April 13, 1994. Full documentation and a downloadable version are available now. We've picked apart every level, found nearly every visible difference under the sun and new discoveries are still being made daily.

The site is growing and expanding everyday, but not just through my own efforts-- I've received large amounts of assistance from many individuals, in what remains of the Ecco community-- these individuals include Tails151, Moduvator, Arkonviox, TailChao, Mecheon, Morpheus, BlueGlass, RebelDolphin, Trilobite, Jes, Kacen, Kristozofia, and many more. I'm also working with Arkonviox to incorporate all content from the former Arkonviox.com into DARK SEA. He is also volunteering his time to help set up an effective forum/chat system, and restoration of the former Arkonviox forums is being attempted for archival purposes.

I invite everyone interested to come take a look, peruse our documentation, download our media, leave comments and contribute in any way they see fit to help form this new Ecco community.

You can find us at: http://www.ecco-darksea.com

I hope to see you there!

ecco [Jan. 25th, 2008|05:02 pm]
City of Forever

the tides of time was basically the first console game i ever really got into. i remember being 6 and having my uncle show me it. after he went "oh i know a level you'd like, it has giant jellyfish" and went to tube of medusa (which at the time i thought was the last level, because he hadn't gotten any farther) i became obsessed with the game, and started drawing pictures of it, and had to buy a sega genesis as my first game system.
more recently, i've been occupied with things such as trying to fill up my favorite songs playlist, so i went to some old video games for music, and i found that ecco 2 also has some of my favorite game music.
anyone still out there?

Ecco for PC [Jun. 1st, 2005|10:52 am]
City of Forever

[feeln' |nostalgicnostalgic]

Hi guys!
I just joined.
I've only ever played the original Ecco and ToT for the Genesis; I played DotF for about five minutes on a PS2 and could not get used to the controls for crap. I kept crashing into stuff and going down when I wanted up, etc.
I saw on GameFAQs that there's an Ecco game for the PC, that came out in '96. I don't have a working Genesis anymore, and besides, both my Ecco games scarcely function, and I'm dying for a little Genesis-era action. I don't have any ROMs nor do I know where to get any.
So does anyone know anything about this PC game or where I could get it?

P.S. Good choice on the name for this community. The beauty of the City of Forever level haunts me still.
